Day 1
My week as a parent helping with my
daughters Year 6 (11 year old’s) class started with the long journey
from Hampshire to Brecon in Wales. This was broken up by an interesting
visit to Big Pit, a working coalmine up until 1980, and now the National
Mining Museum of Wales. The visit including a 300ft descent for a tour
of the coal face. |

Day 2
A change of plan due to the weather
conditions, and this meant the big climb up Penn Y Fan, the highest
mountain in South Wales at 886m and its sister Corn Du 873m.
A steep walk/climb up was quite a challenge
for some, but a huge change in everyone's demeanour came at the top with
a great view and a real sense of achievement. All weathers experienced
on the climb with sun, showers, gale force wind and driving rain at
different intervals.

Day 3
Wednesday was climbing and pony trekking at
Llangorse climbing and riding centre, a great venue with a vast number
of climbs of differing difficulty. The first challenge being three hair
raising 35 ft high crossings of different rope bridges. Some completed
this with ease, some with absolute dread (including myself) !!!!

Day 4
Thursday was caving and a waterfall walk.
Many of the class once again had to overcome fears of cramped
conditions, and water to complete the caving but most truly enjoyed the
experience.
