Cougar Automation Praised by Lord Hunt

Giving the Keynote Address at the CBI Conference Centre on 14 June 2006 Lord Hunt of Kings Heath praised Cougar Automation saying:

'Cougar Automation Ltd., an IT company with just 41 staff, is an environment where even one absence would be keenly felt.

'They introduced incident reporting for “near-misses”, and a stress awareness programme.  In addition all employees now have to pass health and safety competence tests before they go on site.

Cougar’s absence has dropped from 11.9 days per person in 2002 to just 5.2 days in 2005.  In addition they enjoy excellent staff retention, which brings down the costs of recruitment and training.  An employee safety spokesman said of the changes:  “they have kept the company both financially and physically healthy”.

'I couldn’t have put it better myself. '

Lord Philip Hunt, Parliamentary Under Secretary (Lords) for the Department for Work and Pensions was speaking at the 2nd Annual Absence Management Conference.
