Cougar Automation Win Wonderware Award

Cougar Automation have been awarded a prestigious Pantek Project Excellence Award to recognise outstanding project performance in delivering a Wonderware Industrial Application Server (Archestra) system to Network Rail. The award was made by WonderWare's Giuseppe Caltabiano at the gala dinner of the Invensys WonderWorld User Conference 2006.

The award was made for Cougar Automation's role in integrating and delivering a new remote monitoring system to Network Rail.

Network Rail is responsible for the operational infrastructure of Merseyrail, the 75 mile 67 station part underground rail system in Liverpool. Wonderware's Industrial Application Server (IAS) was selected to be at the heart of a Remote Condition Monitoring system that was designed, installed and commissioned by Cougar Automation. This was the UK’s first implementation of IAS which was chosen because of its re-usable objects feature – the MerseyRail application has 700 “point ends” all replicated from a single “object”, as are all the critical dewatering pumps and point heaters. InTouch, InSQL and Active Factory were also deployed in this scaleable safety-critical project that provides a replicable architecture for other similar projects at Network Rail. Pantek hardware and Industrial Consultant support were also part of the overall solution. Owing to its punctuality and reliability, MerseyRail is now the most punctual rail service provider in the country.

In receiving the award Cougar Automation's Sales Director Derek Burton remarked 'I am delighted to receive this award for Project Excellence as it vindicates our bold adoption of Wonderware's Archestra (IAS) technology when it was first released. Cougar Automation were the first UK system integrator to be accredited by Wonderware to integrate their Industrial Application Server (Archestra) technology. At the time of receiving their Project Excellence Award in October 2006 Cougar Automation were still the only UK system integrator with this accreditation.
